Child and Adolescent Training in REBT


Description: In this training, the participants will learn the basic principles of REBT when working with children and adolescents, including the adaptations needed and developmental considerations for the most prevalent clinical problems in youth (e.g: anxiety, depression, and anger).

Successful fulfillment of this level does not mean the participant can provide REBT without supervision.

Eligibility: minimum requirements for enrollment in the Child and Adolescent Training in REBT are:

  • License to practice as a psychologist, psychotherapist, therapist, or counselor.
  • Proof of degree in Psychology or mental health fields (*) (Ex. Nurses, SW, OT, Physicians, Speech therapists) (**)
  • Previously approved level 1 training in REBT or being able to participate in an extra day of training covering the basic principles of REBT (when offered)

Learning objectives: At the end of the Training, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the core principles and practice of REBT with children and adolescents.
  • Conduct an ABC assessment for the most clinically prevalent problems (ex. depression, anger, and anxiety) in childhood and adolescence.
  • Acquire the skills to identify and dispute irrational beliefs in children and adolescents with internalizing and externalizing disorders.
  • Learn how to identify and dispute irrational beliefs that parents may present regarding their role.
  • Demonstrate awareness on the research reporting the efficacy of REBT in children.

Training requirements: The training will have a minimum of 26 hours in total (*), divided as follow:

  • Lectures: 14 hours.
  • Live peer REBT practice: 12 hours (**).

(*) Participants that do not have a previously approved level 1 certificate training will have an extra day of training, including a minimum of 8 hours of lectures to participate in the core training.
