We are committed to disseminate REBT around the globe, through our accredited training centers worldwide. Our certification program includes 4 consecutive levels of training, according to the following guidelines.

Level 2: Intermediate Training in REBT


Description: In this second level of training, participants will deeper their knowledge in the REBT approach in their journey to become effective REBT therapists. Topics covering how to deal with resistant clients and how to effectively dispute irrational beliefs are included. Participants will also learn about the importance of acceptance in REBT and how to intervene in case of secondary disturbance. Successful fulfillment of this level does not mean the participant is capable of providing REBT without supervision.

Eligibility: minimum requirements for enrollment in Level 2: Intermediate Training in REBT are *:

  • Successful approval of Level 1 (Fundamental Training in REBT) or proof of approval of the Primary Certificate Practicum in RE&CBT by the Albert Ellis Institute.
  • Proof of being currently active in clinical practice.

(*) Besides psychologists, psychotherapists, therapists and counselors, other mental health professionals or allies (“paraprofessionals”) will be able to participate in Level 2.

Learning objectives: At the end of Level 2, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the REBT model of unhealthy and healthy positive and negative emotions and their usual presentation.
  • Assess and intervene with meta-emotional and meta-cognitive problems.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the importance of acceptance (USA, UOA, ULA) and developing a functional framework in life.
  • Demonstrate an awareness on how resistance can manifest and strategies to overcome them.
  • Demonstrate advanced disputation skills and styles.

Training requirements: The training will have a minimum of 26 hours in total, divided as follow:

  • Lectures: 14 hours.
  • Live peer REBT practice: 12 hours (*).

*Participants will be required to participate in 100% of the hours of training.
